Summary: Seifer returns to Garden and somehow convinces Squall to help him. For [livejournal.com profile] 30enemies.

Hyperion quivered a little, but Seifer had stabbed it far enough into Squall's desk for it to stay there. He didn't miss the annoyed flicker over Squall's face and it made him smirk before he leaned over and past it, grabbing Squall's work and tugging it away.

"Hey, pussyheart. What's up with you?"

"Aren't you supposed to be avoiding the armies and police forces of the world right now?"

"Aren't you supposed to be all strong and silent?"

Squall met Seifer's eyes for a moment and then looked away, snatching his work back and starting to crawl his signature on page after page of typed up requests. A special chocobo barn in Garden for places inaccessible without chocobos? Check. Nicer looking cars for mission deployment? Squall considered it for a moment, thinking that he'd kind of like better cars, but then shook his head and reluctantly vetoed the request. He barely even glanced at Zell's request -- more hotdogs on the menu -- before he put it aside.

"Squally-boy. I want to talk to you."

"I don't want to talk to you," Squall replied, cool and calm and smooth. He'd really grown into his post as Commander, Seifer thought, somewhat reluctantly. Hell, he'd really grown up in general. Might be interesting to fight him again. No sorceresses, no spells, no guardian forces. Just Seifer and Hyperion and Squall and Lionheart.

"I need pardoning."

"You need an execution."

"Since when did you get all talkative?"

"Since I started dating your ex-girlfriend."

"Fuck you."

"Whatever."

Seifer glared at Squall, secretly exhilarated at the way they'd fallen back into the old way of things. The way he pushed, and Squall responded, just like always. Unfortunately, he didn't have time to be thinking of that. Not yet.

"I need asylum."

"Like I said; you need an -- "

"Shut the fuck up and listen, Leonhart!"

"...I'm listening."

Seifer sighed and stepped back, pacing the room a little. He ran a hand through his hair, looked down at the floor, almost commented to Squall on the choice of his carpet colour. Pink. Interesting. But then he'd always known Squall was a fruit. No point in mentioning it again. Finally, he looked up at Squall. "I got fucked over. Mindfucked. Crap, I almost forgot how to think for myself after all that shit. I need asylum so I can find a lawyer who is willing to risk his reputation on going down fighting for me."

"And why would Garden give you asylum?"

Seifer smirked. "Because you miss me kicking your ass, you little pansy."

Squall pushed his chair back. It tipped back a little when he leaned it back, his eyes half closed as he thought. Seifer didn't push. Leonhart needed lots of time to think.

"...I'm not a pansy, but I'll grant you asylum. Unless it costs me my job. Then you'll have to beg the next Commander."

"You expecting a thank you or something?"

"No. But I'll meet you in the training center in..." Squall's eyes went to the clock, "five hours. At eighteen-hundred."

I liked this a lot. It was very straightforward and to the point. I especially liked how quickly Squall granted Seifer's request, as if his holding out was just a formality and they both knew he'd say yes.

I enjoyed the verbal sniping back and forth.

I like the way Seifer holds himself back from insulting Squall's choices in interior decorating with a will becausehe needs this help (did Seifer ever think that noticing such things in the first place makes him slightly questionable?).

Oh. Oh, I loved this a lot. Especially that six lines of dialogue ending with "Fuck you." "Whatever." That was perfect.

And the last line is excellent. You always end your fics so well :) Definitely one of my favourite pieces by you!
