He cringes a little from Gippal's words, even though really he could kick Gippal's ass and he has no reason for cringing. He makes Gippal let go and touches Gippal's cheek like he's soothing an angry like kitten, stroking and loving and petting.
"Only for sixty days. And it's been... eight already. It's a tradition. I wanted to, people needed, I..."
Pull yourself together, Baralai, the part of him that long ago gave itself his father's voice says, and he huffs softly, leaning against Gippal and nuzzling his neck tentatively.
"Don't be angry. It's not anything to do with you, well, apart from the fact that you're the only person I... well, it affects you, but it's not because of you, that's what I mean. And... people need tradition still, sometimes, and I know you think they shouldn't but people aren't all as, as strong as you."
He's only trying to flatter a little, because he does mean it. He nuzzles a little more.
