They met up often, even though Edge had been worried that they wouldn't, and she was always the same; sweet enough but with the sharp edge that made her real. She always kept them just a little apart, as if she was holding something back for him or as if there was something in the middle, between them, that kept her from giving him everything.
It was the small space between them when they slept in the same bed, the gaps in the conversations where her eyes would go far away. Sometimes Edge thought it was deliberate; but never for long.
