"You went out with Rinoa today."
That was the first thing Seifer had said to him all day, and Squall wasn't as surprised by it as he should be. He wanted to be understanding, but he was sure that he'd told Seifer a million times that he and Rinoa had nothing, had never had anything, ever. So he snapped instead. "So what if I did?"
"You know I hate it..."
If Squall'd been in a better mood, he might have understood that Seifer wasn't so much jealous of his friendship with Rinoa, he was hurt by something else and lashing out at whatever came within his grasp. That was Seifer's way and normally Squall understood and knew just how to turn the situation.
But he wasn't in a good mood.
"I'm sick of this, Seifer," he said in a warning tone, pushing past him and going to sit down. "If you don't like the fact that I have friends, you'll just have to learn to ignore it. I fought a war with these people."
Seifer would've understood, except he couldn't, because he'd been on the wrong side and he'd been mindfucked, and all his friends had left him or died. Or wouldn't look at him anymore. "I wouldn't know what that was like."
"Because you were an asshole and nobody could stand you."
Seifer turned away.
Squall bit his lip, standing up again and going to put a hand on Seifer's arm. "Fuck. I'm sorry. There's nothing between me and Rinoa, you're the only person I want, and you're not an asshole anymore. Okay?"
"Okay," Seifer said, but his smile didn't really reach his eyes.
