Gippal leans down and takes Rikku into his arms with the baby, holds them both close to him and knows that as she sheltered him through the hard parts of his life, it's his turn now. "Rikku," he whispers, "Baralai and I will always be here for you, for you and the baby. You don't need any father for her, y'know? You're the best person in the whole world to raise her, and you don't have to do it alone."
It hurts, because he wants that kid, more than breathing sometimes, wants to name her, wants to be the one she remembers when she's old enough to think dad would disapprove of this guy or dad would like this guy. Him and Baralai.
And maybe that will be their place in her life. But in time, in time.
"People still look down on me for being the way I am, and Baralai too. But we will never let them get to us and you're this kid's mother. Take her and do what you should for and fuck them, Rikku. Baralai and I will be whatever father figure shit she needs. Just show them Rikku."
He crouches, holds her and baby tighter.
"Be her mother, Rikku. Start by naming her."
