cupcakemonster's Spark.
He holds her so tight when she throws herself at him and he thinks he'd break a million times to make her happier, and he pets her hair and holds her tight-tight. She has to tell him everything (everything, Rikku!) but first she has to remember how to smile.
Gippal smiles. He smiles at all the Yevonites because they were all wrong, they were all wrong and the Al Bhed were a little more right, so he has a right to smile at them now. The race who stole away his eye -- the race who stole away his heart, too, and he's all sad because his Baralai (not his, but his in that special place in his mind) isn't there.
He's probably there, somewhere, celebrating, Gippal thinks, and that makes him smile a little more.
'pparently, a Yevonite stole away his best friend's heart, too, and they laugh at the way they've crossed and converged and copied each other.
Gippal drags Rikku out somewhere, when everyone is talking. Somewhere quiet, so they can hear the laughter and the voices and all the happiness, and all the sadness underneath, but so they can hear themselves think. And quietly-quietly he tells her about Baralai, listens to her talk about her Yevonite, and he hugs her close and thinks she's lucky to have known anything with her Yevonite.
He tells her he didn't even dare kiss Baralai, and he tells her he's scared the other Al Bhed boys were right about him.
