FFX-2: Fun and Games Without Depth Perception

Fandom: Final Fantasy X-2
Pairing: None
Warnings: Angst
Rating: PG
Summary: It's bad and he accepts that. Response to [livejournal.com profile] cupcakemonster's drabble, Lying Liars Who Lie.

So it was bad. Gippal accepted that and went about making Rikku accept that (it'll be okay, I'll be fine, don't get hurt trying to get them back for it, and he says it with a little laugh that helps him more than it seems to help her). And when they take the bandages off each day, he thinks about something else and lets them change them and he tries not to try and see, because ignorance is bliss and he wishes he hadn't asked Rikku about it.

And when they finally tell the truth, he accepts it (smile and nod) and tells them he'll be okay. And he will be. In just a little while.

Rikku's dad brings him an eyepatch, soft dark leather, and he doesn't know what to say but when they finally let him wear it, he's thankful, because it slips into place just right and feels okay, feels safe and protective.

He kids himself that one day he can take the damn thing off.

It's weird, walking around with half his vision gone. First it seems like nothing, and then he finds himself trying to always open his other eye, and it hurts somewhere inside when he can't. And he falls over things at first that shouldn't've been near him (no depth perception).

And when he sees Rikku again, waiting all pale and smiley for him, he manages to fall over something and land right at her feet.

Yeah, so much for 'I'm okay, Rikku, really! Look!'
