Summary: He knows what he is and now he's accepted it. Response to
cupcakemonster's A Year Away From You.
So he had fun with Lai, but Baralai was so worried about how the world was (or wasn't) holding together that they went back to Bevelle. And Baralai's bed is nice and all, but Gippal wonders so he wanders, y'know? And Baralai doesn't cling like Rikku, and that's good -- but he doesn't do anything like Rikku, and that's not so good.
It was more fun when he had them both, but then it wasn't fair.
And then he hears that Rikku got into a fight, and he doesn't like the new Rikku that she's made out of herself, but he goes to help out anyway. Being a good guy and all that. And he bails her out with money and by owing a favour or two (or two hundred). And he hauls her out of there and ignores whatever she has to say to him, hauls her all the way to an inn and buys a room there.
And he sits there and listens to her call him names, and he doesn't let her leave the room.
And she calls him an asshole one more time, and says she won't say another word to him.
"I know what I am," he says. He crosses his arms in front of himself, tips his chair back, grins at her, infuriating. He's not one for philosophy and all that shit, or he'd tell her that he doesn't think she knows what she is anymore. He just sits there and waits.

In the most recent drabble though, I think he's started to know himself and what he wants even better. I think he's starting to recognise that while he loved Rikku and the time he spent with her, they didn't work so well, and perhaps he's grown up a little because he just wants to be her friend.
(Though I think he's a baby for turning to Yuna, in the most recent drabble of mine.)
