Summary: Zell is just not a morning person, okay? For
feywood, for getting up on time.
Zell surfaces from sleep very, very reluctantly. Somewhere in half-sleep he felt the warm body beside him slipping away, which was annoying but not enough to make him stir. He wrapped his arms around a pillow and rolled into the vacated warm spot and clung desperately to sleep. In fact, the only reason he raises his head at all is because he can smell coffee.
"Good morning," Squall says, the minute Zell opens an eye. He's holding a styrofoam cup of coffee from the cafeteria, but there's also another beside the bed. Zell sits up, but only because he really doesn't want to end up spilling hot coffee everywhere.
"Room service?"
"My job description is getting longer every day," Squall says, dryly. "I thought it'd be a good idea to make sure you were out of bed before midday."
"Mission?" Zell asks, holding onto his coffee tightly. He doesn't want to think about getting out of bed. His hair will be doing ridiculous things, and he needs a shower since they just dropped off to sleep the night before without thinking about cleanup. He feels slightly gross, actually, and it doesn't help that before the coffee, it tasted like something had died in his mouth.
"No," Squall says. He moves to sit beside Zell. It's unfair how fresh he looks, and he even smells slightly sharp, like the outdoors, like springtime. He's probably been up for hours while Zell stayed in the foggy land of sleep.
"What then?"
Squall's smile is mostly hidden by his cup as he takes a sip of his coffee. "They're serving hotdogs today," he says, nonchalently. "I didn't want you to miss it."
Zell is out of bed in three seconds flat, burning his mouth on the coffee as he gulps it down. "I gotta shower!"
Squall watches him go. If the smile that tugs at his mouth then is soft, affectionate, well. There's no one there to see it and know.
