KH: What Matters
Fandom: Kingdom Hearts
Main characters: Axel, Roxas
Referenced characters: Sora's mother
Pairings: Axel/Roxas
Contains: N/a
Rating: PG
Summary: Something like romance.
Notes: I haven't finished playing 358/2, for whatever impact that would have. This has no spoilers, and is set in a world where there's a happy ending for everyone, I guess.
"You're thin," Roxas says. He's tracing the line of Axel's spine, bump-bump-bump up his back. "All bone. You're real, now, you know. We both are. You should take more care of yourself." He sounds like Sora's mother. She's always talking about feeding them up -- all of them, him and Axel not excluded. He doesn't mind. It's nice he gets to sound like anything, these days; even better that he gets to sound like something with Axel.
"We were always real," Axel says, mostly into the pillow. "We just didn't have hearts."
"But we didn't matter then, I mean."
"You mattered," Axel says, which would sound more like romance if it wasn't half-growled into the pillow. "Let me sleep."
Roxas raises an eyebrow and strokes his hand over Axel's back again. "Exhausted already?"
"You're such a teenager."
"You know you like it," Roxas says, rolling him over ruthlessly. He slides over, straddles Axel's hips, puts his hands on his chest. He can feel Axel's ribs just a little too clearly, but he can also feel a heartbeat, strong and steady, and that's so good he doesn't want to nag anymore.
"Yeah," Axel says, with a real smile, one that reaches his eyes and kindles something in Roxas' stomach every fucking time. "Yeah, I do."
