GW: Understanding
Fandom: Gundam Wing
Pairing: Heero/OC (Ciaran)
Warnings: Heero POV, sap
Rating: PG
Summary: Heero fell in love with Ciaran because he didn't understand. Timeline here.
A lot of people assume that I fell in love with Ciaran because he's like Duo. Cheerful, always with a smile on his face, knowing exactly how to make me open up and talk to him. But it isn't like that at all, and really, Ciaran isn't much like Duo anyway. They do have one big thing in common - they both work with me.
I met Ciaran through Preventers. He's a bad shot with a gun, subtlety never occurs to him, he's untidy and he was a nightmare when he was still, nominally, in training. Despite that, he got his work done, somehow, and you could always rely on him when it came down to it. He made the first move, of course; dinner and a movie, starting out more like friends than potential lovers. Which was by far the best way to do it and I'm sure he knew that. He was friends with Duo, and got to know all of us, gradually, that way.
Some people say that it would be better to have a relationship with a Gundam pilot or someone else who went through similar things as we did in the war. That they'd understand me better. But the Gundam pilots are my friends and comrades and I can't view them in any other way. Having friends to understand me is enough - I don't need Ciaran to understand me as much as, I guess, I need to be close to someone and have someone to share things with. Understanding sometimes seems to make that hard.
I love him because, while he doesn't always understand me, he always loves me anyway.
