"I felt it when you fell," Castiel says, close enough to touch Anna, but not reaching out. Too human a gesture, maybe. Maybe he doesn't even realise that he can, now. "Of course I did. Everyone knew, but I -- I felt it."
Before she got her grace back, she would probably have turned away. There was still a lot of angel in her -- she'd always kept within the straight and narrow, obeyed her parents, forgave all her exes, all of it. Stupidly virtuous, she thought sometimes, but she'd never been able to break from it. But she was human too, and she could forgive Castiel without telling him so.
But she's an angel again now. She knows how humans idealise them, and a part of her wants to be the kind of angel that Dean Winchester believed in as a child. So she touches his arm. "I know, Castiel. I was racked with doubt, pushed to my limit, but your doubts were just beginning. This is the hard road -- but Cas, this is right. I can't give you the answers, but you'll find them. Don't trust anyone but yourself to give you the answers."
He ducks his head, the gesture curiously human. "I do not understand."
"You will."
"Why won't you help me?"
"Because I can't. Only you can decide what to do. You -- you might not even have to fall, Cas. Your way might be easier than mine. Or harder."
He looks up after a minute. There is almost a smile on his face. "Dean Winchester once accused me of being allergic to straight answers. Perhaps it is an angelic trait."
She smiles back at him, grips his arm tighter. "Humans are one answer, Castiel. Humans like Dean. Humans are... more than we ever gave them credit for. You're starting to know something about that. I think they are our Father's most perfect creation."
A frown, now. "They cause so much pain and suffering. Not just to those that deserve it, but to others of their race."
"They have some good ideas, too," Anna says, lighter, brighter, because she has no answer that will satisfy Castiel. She leans in close, brushes her mouth over his. "Look me up again when you understand this, huh?"
"Anna," he starts, but she leaves before he's finished, because she doesn't want to know how he'll react. Not now, anyway. Not yet.
