FFVII & FFXII: Survivor's Guilt

Fandom: Final Fantasy VII (original canon) & Final Fantasy XII (original canon)
Main characters: Cloud, Basch
Referenced characters: Ashe
Contains: Crossover
Rating: G
Summary: Everyone lost someone. For [livejournal.com profile] comment_fic.
Notes: The prompt just created in my head a little picture of a world where all the Final Fantasy game worlds have been jammed together in a disastrous apocalyptic manner. This threatens to create a longer fic, which I don't know if I'll write, but this is the first little scene I got into my head for it. Hopefully it is fairly self-explanatory.

"You're alone."

Cloud looked up. "Yes."

The other considered a moment and then stepped forward, kneeling down to catch Cloud's eyes. "You look as if you can wield a blade. No matter who you have lost, would it not be better to take up your sword and help those that remain? There are many people whose previous lives leave them unfit to deal with what is happening now. You could, perhaps, assuage your guilt a little."

"Did I say I feel guilty?"

"Forgive me my presumption, but you didn't have to say it. Whatever you have been, whatever you have lost -- these things need not matter, now. You seem to have a blade, and a strong arm to wield it. You could help people." The man straightened up again, his expression calm, as if the chaos around didn't touch him. "My name is Basch fon Ronsenburg. My queen, Ashelia B'nargin Dalmasca, and a new other survivors of her kingdom, are attempting to create some order in this chaos. She would welcome you, if you mentioned my name."

Cloud didn't answer.

"I hope I will see you again," the man called Basch said, and left Cloud alone, sitting in the dust.

It was a long time before Cloud moved. When he did, he reached out, and closed his fingers around the hilt of the buster sword. It was another long moment before he raised his head, but when he got up and walked in the direction from which Basch had come, he did not look back.

Considering I'm playing both FFVII and FFXII at the time, this fic really, really hit me. You have both of them perfect and I am really in love with this idea and the world you could create around it. If you write more I would definitely be interested. *__*

I want to replay some FF games first, but I really like it already too, so I'll see...

Ooh. Now I think about it, Basch and Cloud do have quite a bit in common, so nice comparison. This could be a really interesting fic if you decide to write more!

I'm going to do some replaying (or at least, reading the scripts) first, but I think I will write more.

I really like this. Totally wouldn't mind if you were to make it into a bigger fic. XD

I'm vaguely planning to! Just need to get back in touch with the canon first.
