Summary: Sam's noticed something about Dean.

It's not like Sam hasn't noticed the way Dean reacts to his slightest touch. Dad, too, but obviously that doesn't happen much now. A hand on his shoulder here, their fingers brushing there -- Sam sees it. The relief. You're still here, you haven't left me yet. It upsets him, and it kind of makes him want to touch Dean all the damn time, but it's not like Dean would let him. He has to keep it accidental, light.
It's kind of easy in the car. Dean's okay, in the car, he's in his element, he's not scared of anything. It's like armour. And if Sam's allowed inside and Dean stays relaxed, well, hey, that's got to mean something, right? So Sam finds his excuse, spreads out over the seat when he's not driving, lets his hand rest on the seat behind Dean's head. Nothing more, not yet.
And then the next day, the same, only this time he brushes his fingers through Dean's hair once, ruffling it, teasing. Dean scowls and rolls his eyes and huffs, but he doesn't shake the touch away, and there's a kind of relief there too. There's something else, as well, something that comes out of the relief, out of knowing Sam's there, really there.
Sam thinks it might be want.
When he runs his fingertips over the back of Dean's neck, two days later in Indiana, watching him shiver, he knows.
