Summary: The cruelty of dreams.
He is not sure which is the worst dream. The dream that was reality -- Lupa, Cerberus, bleeding, dying, gasping. Or the dream that was never a reality, and never will be, but could have been: his back pressed hard against the damp wall of the waterways, and his wrists pinned at his sides, Lupa pressed close to hiim. Both dreams hold treacherous detail, sharp enough to cut to the bone: Lupa's blood on his hands, on his face, in his mouth. Lupa's hands on his body, Lupa's mouth on his neck, the taste of Lupa's skin in his mouth. Things that could never have happened, because that was before he trusted, before he loved, before he dreamed.
Perhaps the worst thing is that -- that he did not dream in the Junkyard, before Lupa, and that sometimes he wishes he'd never begun.
