F: Changing Things

Summary: Mal should be getting up by now. Timeline here.


Mal knows he should be getting up. He knows Zoe'd be up and moving about: she always is by this time, and she sometimes beats him to it. The others are probably stirring by now. Soon, they'll probably be making snide remarks about where he and the doc are. That's something he should be wantin' to avoid, and yet...

And yet Simon's still sleeping, looking relaxed and more boyish than ever, and Mal has no heart to disturb him. In fact, he's actually rather enjoying watchin' him like that. Carefully, he runs his fingers through Simon's hair, trying not to think too hard about the way the boy had looked the night before, under him, holding onto him and enjoying the hell out of it. "This is goin' to change things," he says, quietly. "Already is doing, and it's like to change everything. Can't say I'm sorry, somehow."

The doc doesn't stir. Mal watches him a few minutes longer, and then moves a little closer, so that they're tucked snugly together like spoons in a drawer.

"You're a bad influence on me," he mumbles into Simon's dark hair, and then he closes his eyes, letting himself relax into it.

In his sleep, Simon smiles.
