Simon is smiling as he slips into bed, curling himself around Mal, his chest to Mal's back and an arm sliding round him. "I thought you'd be getting all jumpy at someone sneaking into your bunk like this," he says, softly. "You did the first few times."
"I'm too far asleep to get jumpy," Mal mumbles. He burrows further into the covers, hoping that'll be enough to get the boy to shut up and let him get some sleep. Bad enough that he couldn't quite drop off until the boy got here, without pillow talk enterin' the equation. Simon brushes a kiss over the back of his neck, nuzzling a little: he can feel the smile. He sort of wants to elbow Simon or something to wipe it off his face.
"When you're in the infirmary, you wake up from a dead sleep if someone walks past the doors."
"Yeah, well. In my own bunk. Safe here."
Simon runs a hand over his side, hmming softly. "You're safe in the infirmary."
Mal closes his eyes tighter. "Knew it was you, s'all," he mutters, and then kind of wishes he hadn't, because it's ridiculous that he knows the sound of Simon's step in the corridor outside, can identify him from the sounds of him climbing in through the hatch.
Simon says nothing, but Mal's pretty sure he's smiling again. He lets him have that -- as long as his mouth is shut, and he's letting Mal get to sleep, he can get away with anything right now.
