Fandom: Firefly
Pairing: Mal/Simon
Warnings: None
Rating: G
Summary: Normally, at this time of day, this would not be what he'd be doing. Timeline here.
Normally, he wouldn't be wandering in the direction of the infirmary at this time of day. Normally, he'd be irritating River with his hovering, or planning a job with Zoe, or snatching some more sleep from the jaws of insomnia. The last would normally be especially welcome, after his sleepless night, but he's actually not tired. He's too busy thinking of Simon: picturing the way he looks naked, picturing the way he'd look all mussed and thoroughly kissed and laying underneath him...
And so he ends up standing outside the infirmary. Simon doesn't notice him, not at first: he's running his fingers through his hair, staring at something on one of his charts. Mal clears his throat.
"Hey," he says, and then immediately wishes he'd thought of something a little more interesting than that. Not that it matters, really. Simon looks up and there's a sudden warmth in his eyes, a sudden crooked quirk of his mouth.
Mal really, really wants to kiss him for the way he looks right now.
"Hey," Simon says, and he stands up. "Can I do something for you?"
"Believe I said somethin' non-specific about later," Mal says, and then, as casually as he can: "Tonight, soon as everyone's gone off to their bunks? My bunk?"
Simon hesitates. "Before I said what I did last night, you... never really showed much interest in me."
There's things Mal should probably say right now. Instead he takes two quick steps and takes Simon by the arm, pulls him in close, close enough to kiss him. He keeps it soft at first, feeling Simon's sharp, startled intake of breath against his mouth. He moves a little closer, so their bodies are almost touching, so he can feel the warmth of Simon right there. He bumps their noses together. "I'm plenty interested. Plenty to be interested in."
There's that smile again. Simon moves that bit closer, presses against him, and kisses him again, mouth opening against his.
"Sir?"
Mal pulls back with a curse. "Zoe, this ain't -- "
Zoe seems entirely unrepentant. "River says she needs to talk to you."
Another curse. "I'll be there in a minute. Simon -- "
"Later," Simon says, nodding. "I know."
