It amused Jayne to scare Simon a little, and if it kept Jayne amused and Simon from making snarky comments, Mal was quite down for it, for once in a way. As long as, and he made sure to enforce this rule very carefully, Jayne didn't play with any gun that might be loaded.

After all, they had to be careful of their doc and not just 'cause he was a good doctor.

Simon knew, and played along. Sometimes almost believed that Jayne might kill him. But knew, no matter how twitchy Jayne's finger got on a trigger, he was always safe.
