10lilies.
You don't have to ask, when she gets back to the cell, what happened to her. You don't want to. You can't even wrench out a full cure to help her, this time. You can only hold her hand in the dark, listen to her pained sobs, and hope that she didn't tell them anything. Hope that it's not your turn soon.
"Squall will be here soon," you say, into the dark, just over the sound of her breathing, harsh with pain, loud after silence. "Squall will get us out, Quisty."
She says nothing. Just carries on breathing, just keeps holding your hand.
"It'll be alright," you say, and it's stupid and useless, but you have to say it anyway, because right now you can't do anything else. The mission went wrong, the tables have been turned, and now you just have to hold fast and wait.
"I didn't tell them anything," Quisty says, and you squeeze her hand tightly.
"It'll be over soon," you say again, and how many times have you said it already, each time hoping that it isn't a lie?
You wish you could do something more. Kiss her. Hold her. Break out. Not just sit in your chains, holding hands.
"Squall will be here soon," Quistis says, repeating your words, and you force a smile, even though it splits the cut on your lip. Even though she can't see you.
"Of course he will. Right?"
