FFVIII: Like The Dead
Fandom: Final Fantasy VIII
Pairing: Squall/Rinoa, past Seifer/Rinoa
Warnings: Angst, deathfic
Rating: G
Summary: Visiting the grave didn't help. For the Rinoa fanwork-a-thon.
"You're an idiot, you know."
There's no answer. Of course there isn't -- she's talking to a gravestone. And yet -- and still -- she'd hoped... It seemed absurd to think of him dead when just a year ago he'd been alive, arrogant and beautiful and strong, the most alive person she'd ever known. She squatted down, putting her hand on the gravestone.
"Rai and Fu told me. They're going to call their kid 'Almasy', you know. Assuming it's a boy, anyway." She sighed, tracing the letters -- S. Almasy -- with her finger. "They only knew a little bit about how it happened. They told you said you'd been in some trouble, but... You should have come to Garden, you know. Squall doesn't hold a grudge against you. He'd've helped you. But you never could ask for help, could you?"
There was no answer to that, obviously. Rinoa sighed and rested her head against the gravestone.
"I miss you. I know you probably thought I'd never want to see you again, but I... I know I'm with Squall now, but... Damn it, Seifer, I hate that you're gone. I hate that I'm sat here talking to your gravestone because you're never coming back. Squall just accepts it, like it's normal. I'm not a SeeD. I don't know how to deal with this."
Nothing. For a moment, Rinoa reached out with her power, trying to find something, to touch some remnant of Seifer. Nothing.
"You always did sleep like the dead," she said, weakly. She got up, brushing off her knees. "I -- I'll be back, okay? And you won't be forgotten. I promise."

Seifer-muse, on the other hand, does not approve. But he's a temperamental guy.
