"No. No. No way. No. Way."
Selphie put her hands on her hips. "It's mistletoe, Seifer. We have to kiss now."
Seifer looked around for exits, or sympathetic people. He found neither. Quistis was doubled over with laughter and Zell was no better off. Squall looked like he was somehow scoring a point, while Rinoa looked like she was in on the conspiracy. Even Angelo, who had snuck into the party quite uninvited, looked amused.
"No," he said, taking a few more steps backward. That proved to be a mistake: he found his back against the wall within about two steps.
"Come on, Seifer! It won't be that bad!"
"Leave him alone, Selphie," Rinoa said, and her eyes on him were both warm and mocking. "He's too chicken."
"Chicken?" Seifer narrowed his eyes.
Rinoa lifted her head a little. "Chicken."
Selphie squawked when he grabbed her, and when he pulled back she looked dazed, disbelieving. Seifer ignored her. "Don't call me chicken," he told Rinoa, firmly, and -- finally -- made his escape.
