"It feels like ages since we've been here," Kairi says, jumping out of the boat and making it rock alarmingly. "I'm sure it used to take longer to row here."
"Even you've got stronger," Sora says, teasingly, getting out of his own boat and onto the pier. He leans down to tie it there safely. Riku and Kairi exchange a look, and then Riku moves his boat just a touch out of the way, enough to produce a patch of clear water. Kairi smiles impishly and gives Sora a push, tipping him off the pier and into the water.
"Serves you right," she says, as he splutters at her.
Riku rolls his eyes. "C'mon, out of the way, Sora. I haven't got all day."
Sora makes a face, splashing him a little, and then moves deeper into the water, swimming round the end of the pier and running up onto the beach. "I'm soaking," he said, unnecessarily. Kairi kept safely out of the way on the pier.
"And if you hug me, I'll be soaking too."
"You'll give him ideas," Riku says, laughing as he jumps up onto the pier from his own boat. For a moment, Kairi and Sora exchange smiles: the darkness, they think, has fallen away from him altogether, leaving him brighter than he'd ever been. Then Sora grins, boosting himself up onto the pier with a squelch from his sodden shoes.
"It's a brilliant idea," he says, "and after all, we did come here to be alone, didn't we?" And he lunges forward to catch Kairi. Laughing, she takes to flight, jumping down and running along the beach. It doesn't take long for both Riku and Sora to follow her -- it never did, after all.
