"What would you give me, if you could?" Roxas asked, idly. He was tracing Axel's ribs with his fingertips, lazily, his head resting on his chest. Axel stirred a little at the question, opening his eyes and yawning.
"Wha?"
"If you could give me something," he said, patiently, "what would it be?"
"You've been thinking about Christmas Town again," Axel said, accusingly. Roxas shrugged.
"It's hard not to think about it. It made me feel... there's something important about it. It's a place about... heart. Love." The last two words came awkwardly out of Roxas' mouth, like he couldn't say them right somehow because he couldn't understand what they really meant. Axel frowned slightly, running his fingers through Roxas' hair.
"It's not any good to us," he said, slowly. "Why don't you just forget about it?"
"Can't," Roxas said, stubbornly. He sat up a little, staring into the dark corners of the room. "What would you give me, if you could, then?"
Axel sighed, sitting up as well. He rested his chin on Roxas' shoulder, slipping an arm round him. "My heart," he said, after a moment's thought. "If I had one."
"Ah," Roxas said, almost a sigh. He shifted back, closer to Axel, warm skin to warm skin, and lapsed into silent thought again. Axel held him, smiling wryly: he had a feeling that he should really write an I.O.U. for Roxas. If he had a heart, he'd already have handed it over.
