Summary: Axel and Roxas visit Christmas Town. For
lemon_advent.
"It's been snowing every time we've come here. Do you think it ever gets round to summer, round here? Maybe I should instigate a little thaw..."
Roxas rolled his eyes, but didn't say anything. He stepped carefully through the snow, squinting a little to look ahead at the little house at the bottom of the hill. "It's a town devoted to Christmas, Axel. The snow is traditional. I don't think it will be worth the Organisation doing anything here, though."
"I don't care if the snow is traditional or not. I'm a being of fire, get what I'm saying?"
"You'll survive." As they reached the bottom of the hill, Roxas quickly moved forward and into the shadow of a building. Axel followed him, reluctantly, eyeing the snow on the roof above and hoping no sudden gust blew snow down upon them.
"I'll survive, but -- "
"Sshh," Roxas said, giving him an annoyed look. He peered out round the corner of the building. "There's not much here we can use. It's a... warm place."
"Did you miss the part where it's full of snow? As in, frozen water?"
"No, I mean... it's full of heart. Not the kind of heart we can use, or even understand..."
Axel glanced at Roxas' face. There was something almost hungry about his expression, something longing. Reluctantly, he peered around the side of the building too. A small fat man dressed all in red was bustling around loading presents into a sleigh, with the help of the elves, who looked more cheerful than was really warranted given the presents weren't for them, and given the snow. "I always thought Santa would be taller."
Roxas didn't even look at him. His eyes were fixed on the sleigh, on the presents, on the cheerful man loading the sleigh.
"Don't suppose we'll be getting anything this year," Axel said, falsely light, hoping to make Roxas look at him, or something. He only sighed. Axel shuffled his feet a little, kicking at the snow, and then cleared his throat. "We could leave this place alone. Not really mention it. It's not like it's an important world."
Roxas did turn to look at him then. Axel grinned, reaching up to tousle his hair so that he scowled and sulked and looked years younger.
"Well, maybe for you, in that you're not a midget here," he said, teasing. Roxas got an evil expression on his face then, suddenly stooping and gathering up a handful of snow and then advancing upon Axel. "Hey, no, that's not fair. Roxas!"
The kid lunged, snow in hand, and rather than throwing it, as Axel was expecting, he stuffed it down the front of Axel's coat. There was a grin on his face, a grin like a real boy's grin, and Axel honestly felt a mixture of affection and anger all twisted together in that complicated way he shouldn't be capable of.
"This means war, kid," he said, ducking to get a handful of snow for himself.
