Gippal leans back and looks up at her, and he's never understood her -- never, not even when they were kids. Girls have always been mysterious and quite beyond understanding. He doesn't get why some people call their machina by girl's names or refer to them as 'she' because girls are confusing and machina are straight forward.
Girls are confusing, and none more than Rikku.
She says one thing and yet he can tell she doesn't mean it. He just doesn't get what else she could mean. It seems simple enough. Why complicate things?
Gippal isn't good with complicated things if they don't follow the right rules. Complicated machina are okay, complicated girls aren't. Complicated people aren't -- guys can be just as confusing, he's found.
He pulls her close to him, pulls her right down into his lap and wraps his arms around her.
He doesn't understand her, but understanding has nothing to do with love and lust and all of that. Right?
