Summary: Talk of childhood.
"Did you have a good childhood, Gippal?"
It was almost surprising for Baralai to be the one that came up with such a random question, and they all looked at him, so suddenly that he flushed a little. Paine had an eyebrow raised, as if wondering why he'd suddenly become the nosey one, Nooj simply seemed interested, and Gippal was looking at him in a way that made him squirm a little, as if he was trying to see right through Baralai into his mind to find out his motives.
"Good enough," he said, simply, and shrugged.
"Tell us about it," Paine suggested, seeing that Baralai wanted to know more and also seeing that he wouldn't like to be any more nosey. She was intrigued by what motivated Baralai to speak and ask such a seemingly random question.
"Well... I grew up in the desert. Like all Al Bhed do. I was brought up as a digger, you know, finding things in the desert. It didn't really interest me. I'd rather make new machina than find old ones and put them together..." he trailed off, shrugging, "I played with other kids, I annoyed my parents, I ran away a few times..."
Nooj looked at Baralai, none of them seeming willing to drop the conversation quite yet. After all, they were a team, and they didn't know all that much about each other, and well, childhood is one of those important things that makes up a person. "What about you, Baralai?"
He was still flushing a little, uncomfortable. "It was nice enough. I was born in Kilika, you know, but we moved to Bevelle..."
"Paine?" Gippal asked, but he wasn't looking at her. "Where did you grow up?"
She shrugged slightly, graceful, and got up to move a little closer to the fire. "Here and there."
Nooj smiled a little bit, and he was less serious, "I just came into being one day and decided to start fighting."
Gippal and Baralai had been looking into each other's eyes throughout the conversation.
The other two smiled private, amused smiles and wished they would get on with it.
