The first time Wash tried to kiss her, Zoe didn't respond very well. Wash will always remember the way his arm suddenly, miraculously, got twisted up behind his back, the way she pushed him back against the wall like he was a rag doll. That should have discouraged him -- it did, a little, but really it just taught him to wait, to wait for her. The first time they actually kissed -- it was clumsy, more of an accident than anything else. They'd both been in the kitchen when a proximity alarm had sounded, and there'd been a great jolt that threw them together. Zoe had kissed him, then, hastily, and then she pushed him away, ordering him to get to the helm and correct their course, save their bacon.
He did, but with the stupidest grin plastered to his face the whole time.
