Edge watched Rydia with a sort of thoughtfulness he wasn't quite used to. She was talking to Rosa -- laughing, even, her eyes bright and her face alight. He was used to noticing how beautiful girls were, but he wasn't quite used to noticing the tiredness hiding behind it, the worry. He thought about everything Cecil had told him about her and instead of wanting to flirt with her, for once, he wanted to go over and talk to her -- make her smile, yes, but somehow make her lighter, happier, share the burden somehow.
He thought about the way she looked in battle, too: like every spell was a struggle, like every summoning opened a new wound. He noticed that Rosa had to cure her more often than anyone else and that often there were dark circles under her eyes.
He wasn't sure what to do about that, but he knew he wanted to do something.
(Even Kain might have been able to tell him that he was experiencing the early symptoms of falling in love, but it wasn't like he'd ask anyone, and especially not Kain. Cecil was a possibility, but then Edge thought he'd never get as bad over anyone as Cecil over Rosa. He'd be wrong, of course, but he couldn't know that.)
