FFIV: Five Ways Rydia Can Keep Edge In Line And One Thing Edge Has To Hold Over Her Head
Fandom: Final Fantasy IV
Pairing: Edge/Rydia
Warnings: None
Rating: PG13
Summary: The course of true love never did run smooth. For
first_seventhe.
Edge has learned not to bait Rydia -- though to say that in a single sentence is to oversimplify things far too much. Despite the fact that they're in love and that Rydia would probably feel lost without him, they've had their fair share (and more than their fair share, if they're honest). She's found ways to keep him in line, of course -- and he thinks he has a way to control her, but everybody else is perfectly aware that she's the one calling the shots.
One of the ways she keeps him on a leash, so to speak, is just ignoring him. He's tried to pull the same trick on her before, of course, but it doesn't have quite the same effect -- she just enjoys the break. Edge hates it, though: for one thing, his ego suffers too much when no one is paying attention to him.
Then there was the time she asked Kain to keep an eye on him. The dragoon apparently took his task very seriously, informing Edge that if he harassed Rydia, he'd have to do something. Edge wasn't about to chance it, since he still hadn't discovered if Kain had a sense of humour or not, and he didn't particularly relish the thought of ending up skewered on the end of a spear.
A third way is one of her natural defences: black magic. She has only set his hair on fire once, but Edge remembers that incident -- and the subsequent mockery and embarassment -- well enough that the very threat is enough to make him behave at times.
The time she set him on fire was, of course, caused by his horrible ego and a few inopportune remarks. He blessed the fact that his eyebrows were never slow to grow back.
The fourth way, well... another natural defence, and it came very naturally to her as Edge insists it does to every woman -- even to Rosa, though Cecil and Kain can't quite imagine her slapping someone in the face, no matter how forward or annoying he was.
That was another of those blows to Edge's ego, because none of the other women at the dance would speak to him after that, and in general he felt rather ignored.
And he knows he's really pissed her off when she denies him sex. She doesn't ignore him, and she doesn't particularly try to get him worked up, and there's no shouting and no fire spells. His good imagination, which he was always glad of before, has turned out to be something of a curse -- she doesn't have to do anything to get him worked up, it seems. Rydia doesn't even have to drag it out very long before he's quite prepared to apologise, and even sounds sincere while he's doing so.
As mentioned before, he thinks he has a way to keep her in line. She is, after all, very ticklish.
(In reality, if he ever tickles her, she'll get hers in return. Possibly by some combination of all five methods of keeping him in line.)
