He was watching him, it seems, from the first moment in that cage, first with hope and only later with interest, with, well, desire. There must have been a time when he didn't wonder what it would be like, bedding a man, bedding a man like Balthier.
He can rationalise it, easily -- Balthier was, after all, the first person to show him any kindness after all that time in a cage. But he can't rationalise how deep in he's gotten, how difficult it will be to forget.
