RH: Maidenly
Fandom: Robin Hood (BBC)
Pairing: Will/Djaq, Robin/Marian
Warnings: None
Rating: G
Summary: Djaq overhears Robin warning Will about her.
"Djaq won't have you pampering her, you know."
Djaq pauses when she hears her name, bites her lip when she realises it's Robin speaking. She isn't eavesdropping, exactly -- her cloak is caught on a branch and it takes her a moment to free herself without tearing a great big hole in it. She hears Will reply, stepping just a bit closer to catch the words properly.
"I know."
"She's not some little maiden."
"I know," Will says again, and he sounds almost exasperated. Djaq finds herself smiling. Robin says these things and doesn't realise how much of an idiot he can be himself -- there's Marian, being brave and heroic and all he can say is that she should be more careful. Women like Djaq and Marian aren't built to be careful, at least not men like Robin's idea of careful.
"She won't want you to protect her. She won't be some ordinary woman."
"That's why I like her," Will says, sturdy and stubborn: he knows his own mind in this matter. Djaq's glad -- not just because he understands her, but because here he has another of those convictions of his to stand up for, and here he is standing up for it.
"I'm just warning you."
"It's not something I need to be warned against," he says, and Djaq can imagine the serious smile on his face, the same as when he's messing around with wood. Silence falls in the camp, and Djaq frees her cloak and takes care to make a lot of noise as she returns to the camp -- ignoring Robin's reminder -- stealth, you may have heard of it? -- and returning Will's smile.
