Summary: Djaq keeps Much company. For [livejournal.com profile] over_look.

Much is cooking something that smells good -- that good that comes from a combination of cooking that is actually good, or at least moderately so, combined with hunger. It'll be the first solid meal in a few days, and Djaq's looking forward to it, but that's not why she's sat by the fire with Much. She's there simply to keep him company, because she likes him -- and because he's easy to tease, and because she's interested to know what makes Robin value him so high sometimes and so low at other times.

But mostly because she just likes him. She first sat with Much while he was cooking because of Robin. Robin and his careless tongue, that is. She doesn't understand why he must always hurt the people he loves, but she's good at smoothing things over for him. Not that Much ever needs talking into forgiving him. The words cut him deeply, and Djaq suspects he bears more scars than any of them, but at the same time, he can pick himself back up with a smile.

That, she envies. She suspects that though he bears more scars than any of them, he might also be stronger than any of them, in some deep and complicated and entirely Much-like way.

She intends to find out, someday. She's sure she will.

But for now, it's cooking lessons and cheerful smiles -- and putting up with horrifically bad singing.

This is wonderful. An excellent piece, fitting both Djaq and - through her eyes - Much oh so perfectly. Much is Djaq's 'project' (she shows a scientist's curiosity and patience) and her friend. Realistic, funny, lovely!

Many thanks! :)

I love the outside perspective on Robin and Much's relationship.
