Summary: Seifer and Squall discuss their 'blades. For [livejournal.com profile] 30_fantasies.

"What's her name?"

Squall looks up to see Seifer eyeing his gunblade: a thing of beauty, now, all shimmering blue fire and an excellent balance, the kind of gunblade that fits into your hand and becomes a part of you. He doesn't ask how Seifer knows he's named it, doesn't ask why Seifer assumes it's a she. Instead he twists it, so he can hold it out to Seifer, so Seifer can take it and feel the perfection of it for himself.

"Lionheart," he says, shaking his hair out of his eyes and watching Seifer.

"Balance is good -- for a hand-and-a-half blade anyway. I've always hated these models, but..."

Seifer looks odd with a gunblade like Lionheart, to be truthful. Squall leans back against the wall and watches him, the awkwardness of his stance, the slight frown that crinkles the scar across the bridge of his nose. He never thought to be talking to Seifer like this again -- never imagined that after all that happened, here they would be talking over their weapons like they had as fourteen year old cadets.

"You haven't modified Hyperion, have you?" he asks, remembering Seifer's insistence that a good gunblader could modify the ammo, modify himself, but leave his weapon more or less untouched -- apart from minor modifications to the chamber, of course, to deal with different types of ammo.

"Of course not." Seifer looks up and hands Lionheart back with a kind of reverence Squall has always found strange in this often irreverent, almost always annoying man. "I don't change my convictions every time the wind changes."

"I think I just needed a weapon I could be comfortable with," Squall says, not an agreement, or a disagreement; that, too, was always his way.

"Let's see you fight then," Seifer says. "See if I think you're good enough."

He's smirking. The tiniest smirk touches Squall's lips in return, and then he brings Lionheart up in a kind of salute.

"Let's see if you're good enough," he says, acknowledging and returning the challenge. For a moment their eyes meet with the old spark, and Seifer draws himself up to the familiar proud stance, his eyes shining.

"I am."

"Prove it."

Thanks!

(I, uh, forget to turn on AIM, since I mostly use MSN and that just to talk to the fiancée and brother. I'll be online in a minute! xD)
