She was warm. That was all he could think of when he woke in the night, laying beside her. She was warm and he rested his cheek against her shoulder and thought about those days in the snow, when they struggled together.
He thought that something was wrong. It was the way she was tense, in a way she hadn't been back then. It was in the sadness and the darkness that had always been there, that was sadder and darker than ever.
He thought of loving her and the little ache that caused. And he closed his eyes and hoped.
