Summary: Cold nights affect Auron, it seems. For
muggy_mountain, for Christmas. Hope you like, since you didn't give me any specifics to work from!
Jecht is snoring. He always does; Auron has almost got to the point of being able to ignore it by now, but not quite, and especially not on cold nights like these. He looks across at Braska and sees him there still, his eyes bright with tiredness and the cold. He sighs softly, wanting to say something -- knowing Braska wouldn't snap at him as Jecht might, but still not sure whether he should.
"I know, I know," Braska says, with one of his easy smiles, before Auron can even open his mouth to say a word, "I should be getting some sleep, keeping my strength up... tomorrow will be a long day."
"I can stop him snoring for you," Auron says, eyeing his sword -- only half joking. Braska laughs, his face coming alight for a moment, and Auron moves over to sit next to him, telling himself it's just for the faint warmth of proximity, and just because the fire is there, burning so brightly.
"I think we can do without resorting to murder, but thank you for the suggestion."
Auron shrugs slightly. After a moment, he clears his throat. "Are you warm enough?"
"I'm fine," Braska says, but his breath mists the air in front of him. It is cold. He glances at Auron, taking in the escape of a tiny shiver that Auron tries valiantly to control. "But you're not. Is there anything I can do...?"
"Short of summoning Ifrit..."
"Is that a joke?" he asks, the corners of his mouth curling into a smile. "Because if it is, that's your second in the past few minutes. I'm starting to worry, Auron. Is Jecht getting to you?"
For a moment, he can only shrug, and then he finds himself smiling as well. "Perhaps so. Or perhaps it's simply a hint."
"From you, I'm more inclined to believe the latter," Braska says, reaching out as if to pick up his staff.
"Don't tire yourself," Auron says, quickly, just in case.
Braska laughs. "So it was a joke. But, here... I can do something to help."
Auron stiffens up a little as Braska moves closer, but the summoner doesn't pull away. He puts an arm around Auron carefully, pressing close to him so that they can feel each other's body warmth through their clothes. For a moment, their faces are horribly close and Auron feels an irresistable urge to do -- something. He looks away quickly. After a moment, he puts an arm around Braska in return, letting him settle down against him.
He's more comfortable now, but he doesn't think he'll be able to sleep at all.
