Summary: Tidus watches a girl on his blitz team. For [livejournal.com profile] 30_fantasies.

It's a game, a dance, some kind of crazy ballet that catches at the feet. Tidus would love to say it's practice that got him where he is, but it isn't. It's the way it catches him, the way he slides through the water, pirouetting, flying, dancing. The ball spinning from his hands and back, the whole thing an enormous game of chess or checkers or something, some unseen hand guiding him here and there and wherever he needs to be, and sometimes, making a mistake.

That, and, yeah, a lot of practice, if he's honest with himself. And the mistakes are frequent enough that he has to admit the player has to make some stupid moves sometimes. But all the same. All the same.

One massive kick and he's clear of the dome of water, the droplets flying from him, shining in the sunlight and blurring his vision as he flips, his feet connecting hard with the ball and punching it back into the water. The girl grins at him, giving him a thumbs up -- she's new to the team, he doesn't even know her name yet, and he resolves to deal with that particular problem right after practice. He returns the grin as he slides back into the water. It always feels like he's falling in slow motion.

She moves like a dancer. The new girl, that is. She moves in that smooth fluid way he's always striving for, the way he thinks he himself moves. And she looks beautiful doing it, her body an elegant curve as she speeds through the water. Her skin is brown, her hair black, her grin evident, and Tidus decides he's definitely going to have to get her name the minute they've done practicing.

But mostly, he's just watching her blitz with a grace that has to be god-given.

"Saw you watching her," one of his other team mates says, an elbow in his gut, as they leave the dome. "Got a crush?"

"Hey! You should've been concentrating on the practice!"

"So should you," his friend says, clapping his shoulder. "You gonna talk to her?"

Tidus looks across at her as she comes out of the water, sleek and gleaming and grinning, shaking water from her body in a quick fluid movement. She's captivating, he thinks. He'd hate to be on the opposite team. He shakes his head slightly, and then pretends he was just shaking water from his hair. "Later, man. Not right now. I'm exhausted after that game."

His friend says something obscene in response and Tidus flips him off, laughing. He knows the girl is watching him. He turns to grin at her too.

He'll get her name. And her number. Tomorrow. When he's figured out what the hell to say to such a pretty girl.
