She clings to him. She came into the infirmary, barefoot and half-dressed, and clung to him, wordlessly, burying her face in his shoulder and holding on tight. He smooths her hair and holds her, feeling shivers work their way through her slender body, and he runs his hand over her back and feels the taut, tense muscles.
"My primary function is to be an assassin," she whispers, like the greatest secret she's ever told. He doesn't want to hear it. He hushes her, brings her down into a state of calm where her eyes slide closed and her grip on him relaxes. He kisses her closed eyes and swears he will never let anyone hear that, of all her madnesses. It isn't true.
It can't be.
