over_look.

"The Tarkheena Aravis was here. I have spoken to the slaves."
Lasaraleen doesn't falter for a minute. Court has, at least, taught her this. Lie with a smile and seem confused, act more foolish than you really are. Even to your closest friends, even to your husband. "Oh, dear, that prank? I had almost forgotten it. It's true, a girl called Aravis was here, but it wasn't the Tarkheena. Wouldn't I know? I have been her friend for so long, and the sun is darkened in my eyes while she is lost to me."

"I wish I had seen her," Lasaraleen says, with an exaggerated sigh.
"I am glad that you did not," he says, harshly, "for if you did, you would have to be punished for letting her go. She is sought after."
Lasaraleen's eyes do not lower. "If I had, oh my husband, I would have counselled her against further rash doings. Well I know that the life of a woman married to a powerful Tarkhaan is the best there is to be had."
"It is good that you know that."
