It wasn't supposed to be a comedy.
It was doing extraordinarily well in those stakes, and extraordinarily badly in the stakes of a serious and thought provoking tragedy. Partly, it had to do with Baku's flair for the overdramatic.
Partly, it had to do with the fact that Blank, Zidane and Marcus, the main parts, couldn't take it seriously.
Ruby scolded them, Baku yelled at them, even Cinna got tired of them, but every time Blank got half way through his dramatic death scene, they started laughing and couldn't stop.
In the end, they made it a comedy, anyway. It was a great success.
