I didn't clap for him because he got into SeeD, not really. I didn't even clap for him in a sarcastic way, hoping to make him feel... what? Guilty? I thought about it, for a moment, but seeing him come back into that corridor, his eyes finding me first, maybe vaguely apologising for passing and leaving me behind, I had to let him know that he'd won. That's why I clapped.

Yeah, that's right. Squall won. He won because...

Squall was everything I'd never be. The perfect SeeD. The perfect gunblader. The perfect icicle, true, but people would love him for it all anyway. No duel would change the outcome now. The real fight had already been fought, and lost. We'd loved our fights, trying to prove which one was better, but it had been obvious for a while that, for whatever reason, I wasn't what I could be, and I finally gave in and accepted it.

That has never meant that I liked it, though.
