Blank looks up, startled to be spoken to in such a friendly tone, since he's the new boy of Tantalus and all.
"Blank," he says, cautiously.
"Marcus," the other says, warmly, and shakes his hand. For a moment, they look each other over in careful analysis. "I was going to ask if you want to go get something to eat..."
Blank thinks of the things he's seen for sale in this city, shuddering. "As long as what we eat has nothing to do with frogs."
"Of course not. We don't have enough money for dessert."
"What?!"
Only later does Blank realise Marcus was teasing.
