"I thought Rydia would be here with you."
Edge looks surprisingly strained, for once, his eyes dark and his shoulders a little slumped. He straightens up, though, at hearing Cecil's voice, and then he grins. "You came to help? It can't've been an easy journey, done so quickly -- and we've hardly left any..."
"I think that's a good thing," Rosa adds, wryly, stepping over the body of the monsters with only the slightest wince. She stares across the battlefield for a moment and then glances at Edge. "But what have you done with Rydia? You must have had to hit her over the head to keep her from the battle."
"All but," he admits, shrugging. "I told her Eblan couldn't do with both monarchs dead to a load of berserk monsters. Besides, I knew I could handle it just fine without her help."
Cecil looks amused, glancing around again at the carnage. "I'd say so. You were right, no matter what your motives were."
"Don't you approve of me wanting to keep her safe?" Edge asks, eyebrow raised challengingly.
He has to laugh at that, shaking his head slightly and cleaning his sword, sheathing it carefully. "No, I have to approve of that, I think."
Rosa rolls her eyes in the time honoured way of women, stepping over another body as she starts to walk to Eblan Castle. Fires burn in the background, and after a moment, her eyes narrow. "Edge?"
"Yeah?"
"Have you even told her that you're safe?"
For a moment, Edge's face goes blank. Then he curses, and Cecil and Rosa exchange an amused look as he dashes off. Slowly, they make their way towards the castle, for a moment focused on the amusement of the moment rather than the problems of berserking beasts.
