He very much wanted to kiss Kaylee.

It's one of the things Tracey is regretting very much right now, what with the bleeding to death. The doctor's hands had that urgent gentleness that let him know how bad it was. And Mal was there. Mal, Mal -- oh, Mal. There's so much to regret about that.

But mostly he regrets frightening Kaylee. And not kissing her. He'd kind of like to now, maybe, a kiss from a pretty girl to speed his way, but at the same time, he's helplessly, hopelessly in need of the strong presence of Mal right here, and he ain't kissing anyone in front of Mal.

He takes a quick breath, snatches it in greedily because it could be his last. There's a thing he's just learning now, about that. How every breath might be your last, and you don't want to stop breathing, so you hold onto it.

Kaylee is blurry, now. He looks away from her -- from his blood soaked onto her, everyone's grief soaked through and painted on her pretty face. Expressive. Emotional. They could've really been something. Had something.

Another deep breath. It catches on something, and he feels the blood spill a little more.

"Sarge?"

"Right here."
