He's always been friends with moogles. They're always around, occasionally underfoot, and Blank has always made a point of helping them out when they do get underfoot. So it's hardly presumptuous to ask them to keep an eye out for Zidane -- to ask them to use their own ways to pass news to him, when they see him.
Just because he isn't with Zidane anymore, and Zidane shows no signs of coming back to Tantalus, doesn't mean he can't still care. And it doesn't keep the others from crowding round him when a moogle calls round -- hoping for news.
