mount_ordeals.
Kain bought her flowers, when he came back. It was a harmless gesture that nonetheless stuck a little somewhere in Cecil's throat and worried him. Because Rosa had smiled so very prettily as she accepted them, and they'd sat in a vase in their room until the very last drop of life had gone from them. Like the first token from a lover, treasured for as long as possible.
He worries. He knows that she loves him, most of the time. But things make him doubt. Her hand rests on Kain's arm a moment too long, and makes him feel a stab of the jealousy he thought he could be done with when she married him. She kisses Kain on the cheek as she moves to come with him, and he wonders. He wakes to an empty bed in the morning and wonders whether she's keeping an early morning tryst.
Sometimes, he wonders if he ever did really win her.
Sometimes, he thinks he's an idiot for wondering so.
When he watches Kain dancing with her, though, she looks up at him all of a sudden, from Kain's arms, with her feelings shining in her eyes -- a smile coming onto her face only when she looks at him. And then he's reassured.
