Seifer remembers the kid at the Orphanage. He can't be sure, memories already blurred and shaky from trying to forget (trying to imagine a more glorious childhood in its place) but he remembers Squall, and fights, and bullying, and rainy days when Matron kept everyone inside except Squall (who always got out somehow). The kid has grown up real pretty, and he makes Seifer think of things (imagine things, at night in bed) that he'd rather not discover about himself just yet.
Sometimes, sprawled in his seat in the cafeteria and trying to keep his eyes only on the table, Raijin, Fujin, or their latest target, his eyes are drawn to Squall, and Seifer thinks that maybe there's a spark of recognition (or just mutual attraction) in Squall's pretty eyes when their gazes clash then.
And it's certainly there when they fight. Especially on rainy days, when the rain lashes down more like ice than water, making Squall's hair stick to his face, making his eyelashes stick together (tiny details Seifer notices in the crystal clarity of the moment). It's there as surely as the adrenaline (and testosterone) is, unspoken and just out of reach, but there. Seifer fights all the harder to draw out those moments, and doesn't really know why.
Squall's beautiful when they fight, rain or no rain. He's beautiful in the showers after, when Seifer sneaks glances and pretends to himself and everyone that he isn't looking for that reason. He's beautiful when he's bleeding, when he's angry, and on the one occasion Seifer drags him out of Garden and actually gets him drunk (and kisses him, a thing that both pretend to forget). He's always beautiful, in a way that'd shred Seifer's heart if he thought about it, and, well...
That's why he fights him now. Especially on rainy days.
