Summary: Beatrix teaches her young queen about leadership. For
xerne.
"You handled that wrongly."
Garnet turned to look at Beatrix, surprised at her long time protector's flat tone. She sat down in her chair, curling up a little and looking up at Beatrix, biting her lip. "What did I do wrong? I listened to them both and I don't think I made the wrong decision -- I don't want fights breaking out in the court, after all."
"You're a queen, Garnet," Beatrix said, softly. She went to sit by Garnet's chair -- sat on the floor close to her, and didn't mind when Garnet reached down, running her fingers through her hair. "And a good one, but inexperienced. You don't need to be polite and say please all the time when you're asking questions, though I suppose it doesn't hurt. You can give commands. When they started arguing with each other, you should have ordered them to shut up instead of listening."
Garnet frowned. "It wasn't a big mistake though, was it?"
"Not if you work on not doing it again."
"Why is it such a big mistake, anyway?"
Beatrix shrugged slightly, moving closer to Garnet and smiling a little as the young queen continued to run her slim fingers through her hair. "It's not a big mistake just once, but if you let them think they can disrespect you like that, they're going to start arguing with you. As a queen, you're a leader. It's important that people understand that."
Garnet nodded. After a moment, she smiled, too, looking down at Beatrix. "What could I do without you?"
"A lot more than you think, my queen."
