Summary: The first time he gets hurt, Cecil discovers the good parts about being worried about. For [livejournal.com profile] mount_ordeals.

The first time he got seriously hurt, Cecil felt a certain shame at himself for it. Nobody else had been hurt -- just him. He lay in his bed, miserably staring at the ceiling and wondering if they were laughing at him, if Rosa was smiling more at Kain without him there as well to steal her attention. He ignored it when someone knocked on his door, at first. Finally, when they showed no sign of going away, he muttered a grudging 'come in'.

"Were you asleep?"

He looked up and bit his lip at seeing Rosa standing there, right in the doorway, looking more beautiful than ever. He shook her head dumbly and she smiled, closing the door behind her and walking over to the bed, sitting on the edge and taking his bandaged hand in hers.

"I came to see if I could help you. I know that magic is supposed to be saved for emergencies, but..."

Cecil immediately resolved to get hurt in battle more often, to get that look from Rosa. Then inwardly berated himself for the thought, pushing himself up with a badly concealed wince. "It'd probably be better if I heal on my own..."

"But I could speed the process, if you like," she said, softly, and then, without asking him, closed her eyes, concentrating. The cure spell was just a light tingle throughout his body -- speeding his body's own process rather than replacing it. "Feel better?"

"Yes," he said, awkwardly.

"Good. I thought you could do with some company while you recover, so I'm here for a while and then Kain is coming. He was worried sick about you."

Cecil resisted the urge to run his fingers through her long hair and instead nodded slightly, shifting carefully to get more comfortable, futile as he realised it was. "I should be fine in a few days, it was just a silly little wound."

"Not exactly little."

"Well, not life threatening, anyway."

"I was worried," she admitted freely, running her fingers carefully over the bandaging on his arm. "I would have come by to see you before, but I had things to do and I knew if I came I wouldn't want to leave."

Cecil tried not to smile too much at that, but found himself grinning like an idiot. Rosa laughed at him, but she stayed longer -- was still there when Kain came to see him, and Cecil had the displeasure of seeing his friend's face darken with jealousy. She left, then, with a kiss on the cheek for each of them, and Kain went to sit down on the edge of his bed.

"I think I should get injured soon, too," he said, huffing softly. "Getting to lie in bed all day and getting Rosa to come in here like this..."

Cecil shifted again and winced. "I don't advise it, Kain. It's not as fun as it looks."

But it wasn't as bad as it felt, either.
