Summary: Auron helps Kinoc out. For [livejournal.com profile] muggy_mountain.

"Thanks," Kinoc says, somewhat doubtfully, as he carefully steps away from the flurry of pyreflies that a few seconds ago had been a fiend. And then, again, less doubtfully, as he looks up at the guy who helped him, "really. Thanks. Very much."

"You should thank the fiend for being stupid and practically jumping into it," the other monk says, drily. He's not one that Kinoc already knows, though he's seen him about, and so Kinoc rubs his sweaty palm on his robes and then holds his hand out. The guy shakes his hand with a roll of his eyes.

"My name's Kinoc. What's yours?"

"Auron."

Kinoc nods, doing his best to be friendly despite the man's slightly dour ways. "Nice to meet you. I've seen you around. You're a little important to be doing duty chasing fiends away from Bevelle, aren't you?"

"It's an important job, whether you think so or not. Most of the priests in Bevelle haven't even seen a fiend unless they came from somewhere else originally. It's our duty to protect them from whatever heads their way."

"Of course, of course, I just meant..."

Auron smiles for the first time -- a thin smile, barely there, but noticable enough. "I know what you meant. And the answer is that I'm not, technically, doing this. I was just passing by on a job delivering messages to Macalania Temple and thought you could use some help."

Kinoc brushes off his robes again and stutters a little. Auron shrugs.

"You're doing better than those guys," he points out, nodding towards a group of warrior monks who were doing their best to turn tail and run.

"Maybe we should..."

"Help them? Lead the way."

Kinoc does. And somehow, that's the way of it after that, until Auron leaves Bevelle and leaves Kinoc to muddle his way along. Auron shows him the way, and he goes first. An unlikely friendship, perhaps, but it works.

I like how Kinoc sees the jobs only as duties (and petty ones at that) whereas Auron is sincerely and morally bound by them.

It is also so reflective of Auron as a guardian to Yuna. While he may dole out advice and helps the kids to see things they might not have seen before, he ultimately lets them lead.

Very in character and well-written. Thank you, again.

Again, thanks for commenting. xD I'm glad you liked. I had to poke wikipedia and a script quite a bit to come up with anything, so I'm glad it worked. :D
